How this directory is organised

Every satellite in the catalog has a page here — not a sample of them. The list is split into the five groups WatchSat uses everywhere else (the same grouping that colours the globe), then paginated 200 satellites at a time and ordered by NORAD catalog number, which is roughly the order in which objects were first tracked. Every page number is linked from this hub, so nothing in the catalog sits more than three clicks from the home page.

What each entry gives you

Behind every name is a live tracking page: the satellite’s real position on the 3D globe, its orbital elements read off the current two-line element set — inclination, period, perigee and apogee — the age of that element set, and, for the brighter objects, whether it can be seen from the ground. The names are the catalog’s own, which is why you will see designations such as ISS (ZARYA) rather than marketing names.

Where the data comes from

The source is CelesTrak’s active satellite list, which redistributes the US Space Force tracking catalog: working spacecraft only, not the much larger population of spent rocket bodies and debris. WatchSat commits a snapshot of that list twice a week and regenerates every page from it, and serves the exact file it used at /data/tle-snapshot.txt — so any count on this site can be checked against the data it came from.
